U of D Mercy Dental School offers services free and low cost. Macomb County Health Department also has a dental clinic available to residents with reduced  fees. Oakland County has a discount dental program, 20-50% off of fees. The State list of dental programs.

American Heart Association

Free recipes from Delicious Decisions at the American Heart Association. Online guide to medicine assistance for seniors, free.

Michigan E-Library

Free E-books, save the gas driving to the library, check them out at home! Many databases of information and magazine articles too. Be sure to check out the site www.libcoop.net too and use your local library from home. You can place holds on items at distant libraries and have them delivered to your nearest branch.

Michigan Foster Grandparent Site

Explains pay, hours involved, training and all you need to get involved in the organization. The income is tax free and this is a job you can really be proud to do. 60 and older only.

Wayne State Institute of Gerontology

They are always looking for seniors for a variety of things. Check the “News” section on the lower half of the home page. This site is a great place to spend some free time.

The United Way of Southeastern Michigan has a referral and help line with a multitude of assistance. Look over the site and then keep the number (211) in mind. The range is from food to healthcare.

HUD Housing Resources for Seniors

Downriver Community Conference Weatherization A free energy program provided by the Department of Energy, and the State of Michigan, servicing 19 Downriver Communities. In order to qualify for this program you must meet certain income eligibility requirements.

Tax credits for certain improvements to your home that make it more energy efficient. It appears as though even caulking to seal the windows qualifies for a tax credit.

Another useful site for doing your homework. Questions can be emailed to staff, no long hold times!

Meals on Wheels

If you find yourself homebound and unable to shop this can be a lifesaver. Free meals are delivered to your door five days a week. No income guidelines and even a temporary situation can be assisted. Contact your local area agency.

Better Business Bureau

Check out any company you plan on doing business with, free. Report a bad dealing so others can be warned.

A group called Michigan Property Tax Consultants,  offers help with assessments and property tax. Please read carefully any information given here and verify with the state or local taxing authorities.

Internet Drug Coupons has links to many drug coupons and offers from the drug manufacturers. If your doctor changes your medicine or when you have a paper prescription check here for a deal on the first prescription. Some give deals for longer but most are for the first time.

Energy Star Product Rebates has a list of products that carry the Energy Star logo and qualify for a rebate. Items from fans to computer monitors are listed. Definitely check for money you may have coming back to you for anything you purchase with this logo on it.

DSIRE is a comprehensive database of information on state, local, utility, and federal incentives that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. Search for the help that may be available in your state.

CDC's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program provides access to critical breast and cervical cancer screening services for underserved women in the United States. Services can be looked up by state. Michigan has some information online.

Macomb County Health Dept has free radon test kits in January, National Radon action month. Find your county health department here. Learn about why you should test your home for radon from the EPA’s information site.

St. John Hospitals offer many clinics, classes and screenings. There is a long list of topics, some are free and others very reasonable.

Beaumont Hospitals list of classes and support groups. Seminars on topics like weight management are free, others have a small fee.

Henry Ford Macomb offers “Dinner/Lunch with a Doctor” free seminars, meal included. Topics vary from sleep issues to back pain.

Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel

Pertinent news about health care and other issues that affect retirees. National list too, developed by AARP.

Unclaimed benefit search tool for retired government employees.  Michigan has a Money Quest site for unclaimed bank accounts, etc. For unclaimed property there is a site explaining the process. There is a  national directory of state government sites. For property searches on a national level look here. The Federal Government clearinghouse site on unclaimed assets a varied list of things! I hope you locate something good!

Blue Cross Blue Shield list of free health and dental clinics. Locations are throughout Michigan, search by region.

Low income assistance for Medicare’s Drug Plan. This site aims to help those hurt worst by the doughnut hole in coverage.
